Excelsior American School celebrated its founder's day on the 19th of November 2005 again with a difference. The aim behind each event organized at Excelsior is to impart life skill education and the ultimate goal being to provide skills such as interpersonal negotiation, cooperation and teamwork etc. It saw little budding artist perform, the orchestra enthralled the audience and the fusion dance performance held the onlookers spellbound. It was an opportunity for parents to interact with Mr. Hersh Kumar, the visionary, who shared his thoughts on different aspects with the parents, which was laced with relevant antidotes. “Exactly 28 years back, I lost my mother this day. The anniversary day used to be a very sad day for me. But later I changed my way of doing. I made a 'U' turn. I started planning and doing memorable things on this day. I started 'celebrating her life'. I borrowed the concept from Christianity. On this day, I do memorable things to collect good memories. Two years back we decided about our plan of starting a school in India and formed a charitable foundation in my mother's name. So the dream of 'EXCELSIOR' is 2 years old today. Today I shall do one more thing to make her day a memorable one. I hope the memories of all the things and events will certainly take away the pain, which this day has brought to me 28 years back.” Shared Mr. Hersh. It was an interactive parenting workshop where Mr. Hersh explained in detail his vision on Excelsior children becoming Self Inspired Learners. “I have come to make a difference in the life of thousands of children and adults who join me. I want to live the life of a “seed”. I have been a 'self-inspired learner' all my life. Now I want all the children in my care to become 'self inspired learners' and I'm sure that these children will do better than us. I believe in this progressive quality of human beings. With every new generation, we are getting more ambitious, focused and great achievers. We must believe in the excellence of new generation.” He emphasized the importance of parents being strategic partners with the school, where the parents contribution were equally important to work towards a common goal. He stressed that if partnership between a parent and the school starts functioning well, the learning would be five fold stronger and five fold easier. Parents were tutored on how to drop the clientele attitude and stay connected with the faculty at school. He also shared his future plans wherein the upcoming Teachers Training Center would be ready by the session 2006-07. His dream is that the 2007 session of the school should begin in the new wing whose construction will take off by 2006 2 lac sq ft building with 50,000 sq ft parking for all with state of the art facility international standard pool, gym, indoor auditorium, labs and an area where parents can watch the sports day in an air conditioned environment. The Director, Mrs. Shalini Nambiar shared the progress, the school has made in this short span of 7 months. The existence, which has been marked by enthusiastic pursuit of, avowed goal of achieving excellence in education. She shared that it is gratifying to see the school growing from strength to strength striving for excellence in all fields.
